Step 1  Group report

1. Group report on “friends and friendship”.

In the last period, we talked something about friends and friendship in order to help Li Dong. Now which group would like to show us his opinions on friends?

Make comments on the group reports.

2. Give special praise to students especially when they use “Firstly”, “Secondly”, “Thirdly” etc. in their report.

Step 2  Introducing conjunctions

Just now, some groups used “Firstly”, “Secondly”, “Thirdly” to organize their report. In fact, to make your report more beautiful, you can use many other conjunctions. These words can also be used when you write a letter or an article.

Step 3 Task Presentation

1. To correct a letter for him.

2. Inform students of the task of this period—to write a letter to a friend in the name of Li Dong.

Last night, I telephoned Li Dong about your discussion on friends and friendship. He is very grateful to you. But unfortunately, he has got a high fever and is ill in hospital now. So he wants you to help him about two things. One is that he has e-mailed me a letter to an agony aunt about his brother. He wants you to correct it for him since he is not very good at English. The other one is that he wants you to write a letter to one of his two unhappy friends to talk about his feeling and your opinions on friendship in the name of him. Anyone who has done the best job will be invited by him to take part in the summer holiday activities with him in Disneyland, Hong Kong. Want it? Then try your best.

Step 4 Proofreading

1.       Correct the letter by themselves

  Here is his letter to agony aunt on p16. Correct the letter if you can find any mistakes. Beside it, you can find the tips that I give you.

2.       Check with his partner and check the answers with students.

3.       Talk about the format of a letter

Now, we have corrected all the mistakes in Li Dong’s letter. As a letter, it seems that we need to add something to it. Appellation (称谓)、signature(署名)and something like  “Looking forward to hearing from you soon.”

4. Conclusion of proofreading

So when you write a letter, pay attention to these small aspects. Don’t forget handwriting

Step 5  Writing and proofreading

After correcting Li Dong’s letter, you can help Li Dong write his letter to his friend. Now it’s your turn. I can give you some hints. Write it and then proofread it.

小王是李东的好朋友。小张是李东班里新来的同学，李东跟他也很要好。但小王、小张始终无法做朋友。请你以李东的身份给他的任意一个朋友写一封信，告诉他你的感受，并陈述你对朋友和友谊的看法。最终说服小王、小张都成为你的朋友。

Ask a student who is good at English to write on the blackboard.

Step 6  Evaluating

Analyze the writing on the blackboard. Correct the mistakes of grammar, punctuation, spelling and expression.

Step 7  Presenting the model writing

呈现给学生例文，让学生感受有连接词的文章的连贯性。同时让学生诵读例文，也会加强学生的语感。

Step 8 Conclusion and homework

Proofread your writing again. And exchange your writing with those of the others. Hand in after you have corrected it.
